Apple’s watchOS 10 includes several key changes that are easy to notice, such as a revamped grid view and a new way to access Control Center, but there’s also a lot more going on under the hood that might not be so obvious. Some of the most interesting features include the introduction of Smart Stacks, new mindfulness features, and a daylight tracker that keeps track of the time you spend outdoors.

WatchOS 11: Best New Apple Watch Features to Try

The Smart Stack feature is familiar if you use widgets on an iPhone or iPad, and it’s coming to Apple Watch in watchOS 10. It works the same way on your watch as it does on iPhone and iPad, serving up an automatically generated stack of widgets. The watch uses machine learning to figure out when and where you’re most likely to need a particular widget, and attempts to show the right widget for each situation.

The Smart Stack isn’t always visible, but you can access it by swiping up or turning the digital crown. Turning the digital crown also cycles through different widgets in the stack, so you can find exactly the one you want. If you don’t see a widget you want, you can add it manually.

The Compass app has received a number of updates that are especially useful if you regularly take your Apple Watch with you on your outdoor adventures. These two features help you find a cellular signal when you’re out of range.
