Bicol Saro Party Rep. Brian Raymund Yamsuan has called on Congress to approve a measure that will create a pension fund for small farmers and fishermen, most of whom live in poverty.

Include food and agriculture in macroeconomic recovery plans

“Our farmers and fishermen are among the poorest in our society. Despite their hard work and sacrifices to ensure we have food on the table, they retire without expecting any lifeline from the government. Providing them with retirement benefits when they reach old age is a long-awaited measure that Congressman LRay and I hope will be passed in this Congress,” Yamsuan said.

Yamsuan and Camarines Sur Rep. LRay Villafuerte jointly filed Bill 7963, which establishes the Agricultural Pension Fund (AFP) to be managed by the Philippine Crop Insurance Corporation (PCIC).

The measure will benefit 9.7 million farmers and fisherfolk, including at least 708,000 agricultural workers in the Bicol region.
