Advertising group Global Alliance for Responsible Media is closing after Elon Musk filed a lawsuit against sponsors who abandoned the social media platform.
'Advertising Cabal' GARM Closes Its Doors After Elon Musk X Files Lawsuit!
Earlier this week, Musk's X filed a lawsuit against the World Federation of Advertisers, which launched GARM, as well as individual companies including Mars, CVS, Unilever and Orsted, a Danish clean energy company.
“GARM is a small, not-for-profit initiative, and recent allegations that unfortunately misrepresent its purpose and activities have caused distraction and significantly drained its resources and finances,” the group said in a statement. “WFA has therefore made the difficult decision to cease GARM’s activities.”
Musk alleged that advertisers violated antitrust laws when sponsors pulled their X spots over concerns that their brands would appear next to racist and anti-Semitic posts. As sponsors dropped out one after another in 2023, Musk at one point told advertisers, “Go fuck yourself.”
