Niantic is making one of Pokémon Go’s rarest Pokémon free to all players with new Special Research, allowing anyone to encounter the Mythical Diancie if they’re willing to put in the effort—and haven’t caught one yet.

Starting in May, the Glitz and Glam Special Research story will be free for all Pokémon Go players, and everyone will be able to encounter the Mythical Diancie. Previously only available via paid research during Go Fest 2023, Diancie is now free for everyone—with one major caveat. There will also be Field Research related to the Jewel Pokémon for a very limited time as part of this celebratory rollout as Pokémon Go prepares for Go Fest 2024.
The Pokémon Go Glitz and Glam Special Research story will be free to claim starting May 1 at 10:00 a.m. local time. This research will not expire and will reward you with an encounter with the Mythical Pokémon Diancie, but only if you haven't caught one yet.
This research acts almost as a rework of the Go Fest 2023 option that ticket holders first completed to get Diancie when it debuted. It focuses on Diancie and its Mega Energy, along with Fairy and Rock-type Pokémon. If you already caught a Diancie in Go Fest 2023, you won’t get a second encounter. Instead, you’ll get more Mega Energy.
