It's been a while since Amazon's budget-friendly Fire tablet line got an update, but the wait is now officially over.

Amazon's Fire Max 11 is their best tablet ever…but is it worth $229?!

The company has opened preorders for its next-generation Fire 7 tablets, according to an official press release. The new Fire 7 comes packed with welcome improvements, while still maintaining the price point that made previous versions so successful.

The new Fire 7 has twice the RAM of the previous generation, ideal for multitasking, and features a quad-core processor that the company says is 30 percent faster than the previous CPU.

Battery life also gets an upgrade, with Amazon saying you'll now get 10 hours of use per charge. Another welcome improvement? The company has ditched micro-USB in favor of USB-C.
