Since Alexa's first appearance in 2014, the world has become accustomed to saying "Hey, Alexa" to ask a question, but those days appear to be over.

Alexa (Amazon Echo) and Google Home infinite loop conversation

Amazon just unveiled a new feature called Conversation Mode, which allows Alexa to communicate back and forth without repeating the wake word, as announced on the company's blog.

Once you say, “Alexa, join the conversation,” the smart assistant will reportedly engage when spoken to, regardless of whether you say the wake word or not. Amazon says this allows for more “freeform interactions” and that Alexa will “respond when spoken to and pause when interrupted.”

This tech does require a camera to work, however, as Alexa needs to know when it's being addressed. That said, conversation mode is currently locked to the third-generation Echo Show 10.
