These days, Apple seems to be taking a different approach. In mid-July, for example, the company announced a new HomePod mini that can work through midnight.

New features coming to HomePod and HomePod mini with Update 17 and 17.1!

The announcement came Monday without much fanfare. In fact, the press release is a simple statement that outlines the new color and notes that it's "made from 100 percent recycled mesh material." That's a slight departure from previous HomePod minis, which Apple has claimed are "over 90 percent" recycled.

The new color looks suspiciously like the Space Gray of the original HomePod mini, joining the device’s existing white, blue, yellow, and orange color scheme. The press release doesn’t seem to indicate that any additional features have been added, however. It still works with Siri, and can still detect the temperature and humidity of a room. It can play your Apple Music, and can be used with the Apple TV 4K.

So, what's the reason for the announcement, other than a new color? If anything, Apple hasn't given any clues yet, which means we'll just have to wait and see.
