Review: Arlo Video Doorbell is better than Ring

Arlo, once under the Netgear umbrella but now a separately traded company, has become a big name in the smart home security camera space. Arlo’s Video Doorbell is one of its more affordable offerings, and is designed as a practical way to protect your property. Equipped with a siren and other upgraded features, the Arlo Video Doorbell seems like a great value for the money. But how does the Arlo Video Doorbell compare to other video doorbells like the Google Nest Hello, RemoBell S, and Ring Video Doorbell 3? I put the Arlo Video Doorbell to the test for a week to find out.

The Arlo Video Doorbell looks similar to the Google Nest Hello at first glance. It has a similar oval shape and a black-and-white color scheme, with the camera at the top and the doorbell button at the bottom. However, the Google Nest Hello has a status ring around the doorbell button, while the Arlo has LED status dots in a circular pattern along the inner perimeter of the doorbell button. The camera also protrudes slightly forward on the Arlo, while it sits flush on the Google Nest Hello.

The Arlo Video Doorbell is taller than many video doorbells I’ve come across (including the Nest Hello ), measuring five inches tall. It’s not overly wide or thick, measuring only 1.7 inches wide and an inch deep, but its longer length makes it more noticeable and allows a visitor to spot it fairly quickly as they approach your home.
