The Hulu documentary Betrayal: A Father's Secret explores the disturbing child pornography allegations against Jason Lytton and how his wife, Ashley Lytton, discovered a dark secret about her husband. Additionally, it sheds light on how police investigated the case and arrested the perpetrator. The documentary also featured Jason Lytton's stepdaughter, Avaya Lytton.

According to ABC4, authorities learned of Lytton’s existence when an unknown person who helped him create a Venmo account found explicit images of underage girls. Initially, the person did not go to the police and spoke to Lytton’s brother. Later, his brother spoke with Lytton, who decided to call the unknown person and admitted to possessing child pornography. After the person shared the details with authorities, detectives checked his phone and found explicit material of underage girls. Jason Lytton was subsequently arrested and charged with multiple counts of sexual exploitation.

Although authorities charged him with 100 counts of sexual exploitation of a minor, he never appeared in court. Another report from ABC4 reported that Lytton accepted a plea deal and received a minimum sentence. The court sentenced him to 329 days in jail and ordered him to serve 48 hours of probation. The sentence did not reassure Avaya Lytton, who said in the documentary that Jason Lytton should never be released from prison.
