With less than two months to go before the earlier-than-expected launch of the Pixel 9 series, there have been a lot of leaks and rumors surrounding what these devices will look like in their final form. Like every year, the latest Pixel is expected to outdo all previous entries in several areas, including AI, which is perhaps the most talked about feature on these devices. What makes this news so special is the fact that the M14 OLED displays (supplied by Samsung) are even better than those on Samsung's own Galaxy S24 series, which uses the older M13 OLEDs.

As far as naming conventions go, Samsung Displays is easy to judge: the higher the number, the better the screen. This should, at least in theory, mean better power efficiency, longevity, brightness, and overall quality on the Pixel 9 devices.

We say theoretically, because better screen quality isn’t the only thing that determines the final results in the real world. Firmware tweaks on Samsung Galaxy devices allow for better contrast at different brightness levels, making them easier to read. Google and other OEMs don’t have such tweaking capabilities.
