Downloading files using the Firefox browser seems like a pretty straightforward process. You click a link, perhaps choose where to save the file, and wait for the file transfer to complete. However, you have more control over this process than you probably realize, as the browser offers the ability to customize various download-related settings in Firefox: changing the download location, displaying plugins, and more.

You can make these changes behind the scenes via Firefox's about:config preferences. Below, we'll show you how.

First, open Firefox and type the following text into the browser’s address bar: about:config. Then press Enter. You should now see a warning message stating that this may void your warranty. If so, press I’ll be careful, I promise!

A list of Firefox preferences should now appear in the current tab. In the search field provided, enter the following text: browser.download. All download-related choices should be visible.
