Deadline notes that Firth is in "early talks" to join the project, and if he accepts a role, he'll star opposite Emily Blunt, who has already been tipped to lead the film. As was the case with Blunt's casting, no real information is known about Firth's proposed role, as virtually nothing is known about the project itself.

Spielberg's next film is being backed by Universal Pictures and is expected to premiere on May 15, 2026. It's unclear what the project will be called or what it will focus on, though previous reports suggested that Spielberg was working on an original UFO story.

Spielberg will work with David Koepp on the film, with Koepp penning the script for the project. The two are no strangers to each other, as Koepp wrote 1993's Jurassic Park , 1997's The Lost World: Jurassic Park , 2005's War of the Worlds , and 2008's Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull for Spielberg.
