It's a special day for fans of the iconic tactical first-person shooter Counter-Strike, but the game's massive player base is really hoping Valve didn't forget to give them a gift.

Today, Counter-Strike celebrates its 25th anniversary. On June 19, 1999, the game was first released in public beta. Although the game officially released on November 8, 2000, coinciding with the birth of future prodigy ZywOo, Counter-Strike gained popularity during its beta phase and laid the foundation for a global FPS dynasty.

On the game's heavily trafficked subreddit, several players have been reminiscing about the game's early beta days, with many hoping that Valve won't forget and will do something to commemorate the date. Valve has celebrated major milestones in the past, such as when it released the CS20 case and sticker capsule in 2019 to celebrate the game's 20th anniversary.

The 25th anniversary has raised the hopes of some Counter-Strike fans, as Valve has exceeded expectations for the same milestone for other games. In November 2023, Valve surprised fans with the original Half-Life 25th anniversary update, bringing new bug fixes, updates, and content including multiplayer maps and Steam Deck compatibility. A behind-the-scenes documentary about Secret Tape also accompanied the new update.
