Dana Walden on Disney's Emmy Nominations, the Future of 'Shogun' and Giving Kimmel a Break as Host

The three most-nominated shows at this year’s Emmys, Shōgun (25 nominations), The Bear (23) and Only Murders In the Building (21), all go by different labels — FX, FX on Hulu and Hulu Originals series, respectively. But they have something in common — they’re all streaming on Hulu.

As co-chairman of Disney Entertainment, Dana Walden oversees FX, Hulu and ABC—where Abbott Elementary continued to fly the flag for broadcast series with nine Emmy nominations—and several of the company’s other television divisions. Speaking to Deadline after the Emmy nominations were announced today, Walden was asked about surprises and disappointments on the list.

"Well, I would say there weren't many disappointments. It's an incredible day for The Walt Disney Company," she said. "When I think about everything we've done over the last five years, as we integrated the Fox companies into The Walt Disney Co., the result today is a combined total of 183 nominations, more than any other company. So I think today I'm really grateful to [CEO] Bob [Iger] and his strategy to turbocharge The Walt Disney Co.'s streaming platforms, Hulu and Disney+, with best-in-class content that's recognized across the industry and by consumers."
