The DC Snipers: A Man and a Boy (Tragedy Documentary) | True Stories

In October 2002, two snipers terrorized the U.S. capital region, killing people throughout the Washington, D.C. area over the course of three weeks. Several films and documentaries have documented the Beltway sniper attacks over the years. It has been more than two decades since the tragedy, and one of the D.C. sniper assassins remains in custody.

According to CNN, John Allen Muhammad and Lee Boyd Malvo were convicted of the sniper attacks in DC, killing 10 people and leaving three wounded. Muhammad was sentenced to death in 2004. Meanwhile, Malvo was given multiple life sentences without the possibility of parole in Maryland and Virginia after being convicted of the crimes. However, Virginia changed its law in 2020 regarding juveniles receiving life sentences without the possibility of parole. Malvo was 17 when he carried out the attacks with his partner. As a result, his sentences in Virginia were commuted to life in prison with the possibility of parole after 20 years.

Malvo, now 39, is currently being held at Keen Mountain Correctional Center in Virginia, according to Virginia Department of Corrections records. Muhammad, meanwhile, was executed in November 2009, CNN reported. Malvo got married from prison in 2020 while serving his sentence, according to CBS News.
