IKEA is hiring 10 lucky candidates to work in a virtual IKEA store in Roblox, the popular online game, and it can only be described as a bold move.

This announcement was made public on IKEA’s official website. According to the post, 10 applicants from the UK or ROI will have the chance to perform various jobs in a Roblox game called “The co-worker”. The roles will include all the usual IKEA jobs, from working at the cash register to serving meatballs. Of course, these activities will involve mini-games that are often found in Roblox. The applicants will be paid £13.15 / €14.80 per hour.

Before you ask, let us give you the answer: Yes, this is very real and you can apply for the position as long as you are over 18 years old. Candidates who pass the initial application will have to go through a virtual interview. Applications are open from June 3rd to June 16th. The announcement was later shared on X and many were rightly confused. Some users were baffled by the announcement and wondered if it was real, while others had already applied for the potential position.

Many games, especially MMORPGs (like World of Warcraft), already have people working as Admins and Game Masters, so the idea of working in a virtual store doesn’t sound too far-fetched. But then again, it’s very interesting that IKEA chose Roblox out of all the games, where the majority of players are younger children.
