Despicable Me 4 director Chris Renaud recently shed some light on the future of the hugely popular film series. The fourth installment of the Despicable Me franchise, set to be released on July 3, 2024, has grossed a lot of money worldwide despite receiving negative reviews from critics. The film reportedly ended its theatrical run with a staggering $850 million worldwide. Following the success of the film, Renaud has given his opinion on the fate of the franchise.

While talking about the film's final scene, the American filmmaker suggested that Despicable Me 4 could be his final contribution to the popular film series.

In a recent interview with ComicBook.com, Renaud explained the context of the film's final scene. As the animated film nears its conclusion, fans see Gru competing in a prison talent show. In addition to the villainous Maxime Le Mal, all of the other Despicable Me and Minions antagonists also make a surprise appearance.

Commenting on the sequence, the Despicable Me 4 director hinted at his future with the franchise. "Look, I can only speak for myself and I was a big part of pushing that scene and how it came to be," Renaud said.
