Bungie announced today that Destiny 2: The Final Shape will increase the Guardians' maximum Power level to 2,000.

Not only that, but the Power floor will increase to 1,900, meaning that's where everyone will start when The Final Shape comes out. The soft cap will be 1,940, meaning players will only need to increase their Power by 40 to reach it. In previous expansions, that required 50 Power.

"This change should give New Lights enough time to get comfortable with the core of Destiny's Gear Power system before jumping into the broader game without holding them back," Bungie said in this week's blog post. "You can also easily earn the Soft Cap by playing both difficulties of The Final Shape campaign."

The developer confirmed that completing The Final Shape's campaign will reward a full gear set worth 1,960 Power, just five less than the value of the first raid's competitive mode.
