DISNEY FIRES 140 EMPLOYEES | Film Threat News

Disney Entertainment Television announced layoffs Wednesday, affecting about 140 people, representing about 2% of DET's total workforce.

National Geographic is the hardest hit brand with about 60 layoffs, or about 13% of its workforce. Other significant divisions include ABC Owned Television Stations, Freeform, the operational side of Disney’s linear entertainment networks, Unscripted, Marketing and Publicity. No teams are being laid off.

Not surprisingly, Disney's linear networks have borne the brunt of the staff cuts, especially those that don't supply the company's streaming platforms with hugely popular original series like FX's Shogun or ABC's Grey's Anatomy, which drive up ratings and subscribers.
