Back in July, news broke that Kentucky Fried Chicken, of all people, would be entering the then-next-gen console race with their own inexplicable creation, the KFConsole. While it initially sounded like something straight out of a sketch comedy show—a KFC console shaped like a bucket, with a chicken coop?—KFC and their partner, Cooler Master, were still staring at us with stone-faced expressions long after the laughter had stopped.
So the KFConsole is real and powerful!
In December, the company made the announcement official, reiterating its promise that the KFConsole was indeed not the brainchild of an exceptionally brave marketing team or a dream of Colonel Sanders, but that it was in fact a real device, backed by real hardware.
Since then, news surrounding the console has calmed down a bit, but we're still curious and are eager to know the following:
Yes, indeed. It seems like the KFConsole, against all apparent odds, is seriously going to become a thing. And a high-end piece of hardware that, in some ways, might even surpass the PS5 and Xbox Series X. And yes, it actually keeps your food warm with a built-in chicken chamber. That hasn’t changed. Ever since KFC and Cooler Master assured everyone back in December that the device was indeed being developed for an eventual release and read out a list of impressive specs, there has been absolutely no sign that the KFConsole is a hollow marketing ploy and all indications point to the KFConsole being very much still real.
