To say that the Dragon Age: The Veilguard gameplay trailer was met with backlash from fans would be an understatement. BioWare has received a fair amount of criticism, though the franchise's original creator has vigorously defended the game.

Dragon Age: The Veilguard | Gameplay Reaction & Analysis

Dragon Age creator and former lead writer for the franchise, David Gaider, made a series of posts on his social media about the latest Dragon Age: The Veilguard trailer. Unlike the community, he praised it instead of launching a series of negative feedback, making him an outlier in the discussion.

Fans were very critical when the video was revealed on June 11 at the Xbox Showcase. Their feedback ranged from comments about poor story elements and bland gameplay to odd-looking character design and the darker tone of the world. Some of these aspects, such as the setting and plot, were taken under scrutiny by Gaider.

"I'd say this was a better introduction than the reveal trailer," Gaider wrote on Twitter/X on June 12. "We see some story, and tonally it feels a lot darker and more DA. Like I said, trailers should often be taken with a grain of salt, and my impression is that a lot of fans are relieved. That's great."
