If you found yourself playing old Fallout games after watching Lucy, the Ghoul, and Maximus on TV, you’re not alone. We all wanted to spend more time in the wasteland, which resulted in an (un)expected increase in sales of Fallout 4 and Fallout 76.

Fallout 76 after the Fallout TV show

If you’ve been watching the player counts on Steam’s charts, you’ve noticed an increase in vault dwellers in Fallout 4 and Fallout 76. We’ve all noticed more players, but no one expected either game to appear in the Top 10 list after being buried at the bottom. According to video game industry consultant Matt Piscatella, Fallout 4 was ranked 5th on the April charts after having peaked at 87th in March. Fallout 76 jumped even higher, from 159th in March to 8th in April!

While Fallout 4 was successful during its initial run, Fallout 76 was an ambitious game with many issues at launch. While it slowly improved, it would have been too late for players to notice if it weren’t for the Fallout TV series. This fact makes Fallout 76’s jump from the basement to the top even more impressive. Now that it’s getting a second chance, developers are hoping to keep players around this time around, especially given the amount of new Fallout 76 content.

You have to hand it to Bethesda, because they were prepared for this, giving Fallout 4 a next-gen facelift and introducing a plethora of fresh content to the nearly forgotten Fallout 76. There will be no shortage of new content in the future, as the second season of the Fallout TV show is officially in development. This gives Bethesda hope that Starfield will see a glorious return if the Starfield TV project ever comes out. It is Fallout in space, after all!
