Google Pixel Gemini AI Event: Everything Revealed in 8 Minutes

Google announced Wednesday that its AI chatbot, Bard, will get the new Gemini language model that the company has been testing. Sissi Hsiao, VP and GM of Google Assistant and Bard, wrote in the post announcing the changes that Gemini is Google's "most capable [AI] model with advanced multimodal reasoning capabilities."

Gemini is rolling out to Bard in two phases: This is the first release, which gives the Bard you use now access to Gemini Pro, “for more advanced reasoning, planning, understanding, and more.” In early 2024, Bard Advanced will get Gemini Ultra, which is designed to handle the big, complicated tasks that enterprises can use AI for.

Another version of Gemini, Nano, is designed for on-device tasks, and it appears that the Pixel 8 Pro will be the first device to come with Gemini built-in. Brian Rakowski, Google’s VP of Product Management, wrote in an announcement post that Gemini Nano “harnesses the power of Google Tensor G3 to deliver two expanded features: Summarize in Recorder and Smart Reply in Gboard.” That update for Pixel 8 Pro begins rolling out today, and Google plans to “unlock new Assistant capabilities with the Bard experience on Pixel early next year.”
