Zoey's Extraordinary Playlist alumnus Michael Thomas Grant will join Grey's Anatomy season 21 as the hospital's new gay chaplain, James, Deadline has confirmed.

Grey's Anatomy Season 21 Casts Zoey's Playlist Alum as New Gay Cleric

According to ABC's character description, "James Grey Sloan joins as the hospital's openly gay Episcopal chaplain. He has a special place in his heart for his younger patients, and his warmth, training and spirituality make him comfortable and confident in any situation. In his personal life, James finds himself at a crossroads where he's open to love and taking giant leaps of faith."

The character is introduced in the second episode of season 21.

As previously reported, first by TVLine , the series was planning to add a new, gay male character following the departure of Jake Borelli. Back in May, we learned that he would be leaving the series next season after wrapping up his storyline as gay doctor Levi Schmitt.
