GRISELDA Explained: Netflix Show vs. Real Life | Ending, True Story & Spoiler Review

The new Netflix miniseries Griselda doesn’t pretend to be a documentary about Colombian drug lord Griselda Blanco, played in the series by Sofía Vergara. But you might be surprised at how accurately the series captures the lives of the 1980s drug lord and the people around her.

In a recent interview with RadioTimes.com, Griselda director Andrés Baiz said the series stays close to reality. "We do all the research we can. We read books, we interview people, we watch documentaries — and once you have all that information, you start telling someone's story," Baiz explained. "But you have to ask yourself: What are we saying as creators? What is the theme of our show? And the theme of our show is women in power, women in a man's world. So the writing and the direction are wrapped up in that theme. So a lot of what you see in the show — a lot of the characters, events, actions — are absolutely real, but we were especially interested in our theme and the inner truth of those characters."

Read on to discover what's true and what's fiction in this six-episode series.
