As Apple’s fall launch approaches, rumors are swirling about what could be coming. According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, the rest of Apple’s computer lineup could get the new M4 chip this fall or spring.

In his regular Apple rumor column, Gurman said that Apple is planning several new Macs later this year: MacBook Pros, the iMac desktop and the Mac mini. He also mentioned that new MacBook Airs, Mac Pros and Mac Studios are planned for next year. All are designed to bring Apple’s computer lineup to the company’s current M4 processor, which powers the company’s new AI features. This is the first time, Gurman pointed out, that the company has used the same generation of chip in all of its computers.

Most notably, Gurman focused on the new Mac mini that is expected to make an appearance at Apple's fall event. Gurman said his Apple insiders shared information about the new mini's features, including its size, which is expected to be more like the size of the Apple TV set-top box. That would make it small enough to fit in the palm of your hand, though Gurman does expect the mini to be thicker than it is now.

Gurman's sources also revealed that the new Mac Mini will take advantage of Apple's silicon's lower power requirements, making it "essentially an iPad Pro in a small box." What that means in terms of functionality remains to be seen.
