There’s a lot of debate surrounding the criticism of Ubisoft’s latest free-to-play online shooter XDefiant. In addition to hit registration issues, overpowered snipers, and aim-bot hackers, a common complaint among players is the game’s movement and how many players abuse the jump mechanic. Thankfully, that’s changing.

This is HOW XDEFIANT WEAKENED Bunny Hopping

It certainly feels to me like Ubisoft has made a concerted effort to make movement in XDefiant more fluid compared to Call of Duty – all while maintaining the brisk pace and responsiveness the series is known for. The resulting mix makes XDefiant’s movement feel like a much snappier Apex Legends, which I think is a very good thing.

I welcome this direction, but unfortunately I must also join the chorus of players who complain about how easy it is to spam multiple jumps and other moves in a row, resulting in the phenomenon known as jump shotting or bunny hopping. There are already a number of other frustrating quirks to deal with in XDefiant, the most notable of which is the dominance of the TAC-50 sniper rifle in virtually every match. So being surprised by a leaping figure as you turn every corner in this game certainly doesn’t help keep morale high.

The exploitation of this vulnerability, particularly by higher-skilled players, allows them to run circles around more casual players before finishing them off up close. If going up against such players is a frustrating experience for me, then I can certainly see why players new to XDefiant may be put off by the game. Ultimately, it’s a cheap crutch for players to rely on before Ubisoft even has a chance to properly address the issue.
