If you’re looking for a solid e-reader, you have a choice: buy an e-ink device with a backlight so you can read outdoors in bright light, or grab a bright LCD tablet for reading image-dependent content like comics or magazines. The former is sharp and clear, but not in color (or low-resolution color), and the latter is hard to read in sunlight.

($150) 2024 Barnes & Noble NOOK 9" Lenovo Android Tablet Full Review!

The NOOK 9-inch Lenovo Tablet is the latest, and it excels at reading all kinds of media. Its 1340 x 800 LCD display has a brightness of 400 nits, so it’s more than bright enough for reading indoors and outdoors, as long as it’s not in direct sunlight like your phone.

It comes with Nook software pre-installed, making it a breeze to log in and read the Nook books you already own. Buying new books is easy, too; you can just tap the “Buy” button in the Nook app instead of having to jump into a web browser like you do on iOS.

The reading experience is great too: looking up unfamiliar words is as easy as tapping and holding to see a quick definition. Highlighting is fun and comes in colors. Bookmarks work, and all the other e-reading stalwarts are here.
