Helldivers 2 can’t seem to rest when it comes to balance issues. It’s getting harder and harder to please everyone with weapon balance, but one player claims to have a solution: weapon upgrades as seen in the first Helldivers game.

Helldivers 2 developers break silence on flame weapon balance!

The player shared his findings in Helldivers 1, which most Helldivers 2 players may not be familiar with, claiming that the prequel had one feature that fixed all of the primary weapon issues. "This is exactly the fix we need for the sequel," the player wrote in a May 14 Reddit thread, posting a list of upgrades for the Liberator AR, Sorcher Plas, and the Sickle. For example, the Liberator AR could be upgraded to gain increased melee damage and range, better recoil when firing on full auto, and a larger magazine capacity.

"By having perks to further upgrade weapons, primary weapons would see more power creep over time, and we could use our requisition slips to upgrade them," the thread creator added. And that would make sense: weapons could have base versions that aren't all that powerful or even outright unviable in high-level play. Then, players could grind through challenges or perhaps developer-designed unique Major Operations focused on collecting weapon parts or blueprints, making said weapons viable through gameplay.

One player commenting on the thread said that adding a weapon upgrade system would astronomically increase their playtime by at least a month. Grinding weapon upgrades may seem like a tedious idea at first, but if done right, it can potentially provide an extra incentive to try new things and keep you coming back to the game every now and then.
