Speaking at the opening of the plenary session on Monday, Romualdez said the House “welcomes and fully supports” the decision of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. to reduce tariffs on imported rice from 35% to 15% through Executive Order (EO) No. 62.

“I would like to add that in conjunction with the reduction of rice tariffs for the benefit of Filipino consumers, we will strive to provide all necessary infrastructure, technological and financial support to increase the productivity and income of our farmers,” Romualdez said.

“By increasing rice supply and managing prices, rice becomes more affordable and thus accessible to all Filipinos,” he added.
