Facebook recently said its new augmented reality interface would use wristbands that translate neural signals into actions. It’s part of a growing effort to help computers understand the brain, experts say.

“The most exciting applications, to me, are in medical and aerospace,” said Jose Morey, a former adviser to the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy, in an email interview.

“Use this type of technology for patients who have lost the use of a limb or after an amputation for a biomechatronic restoration. For space exploration by using this technology for humanoid robotic control, both for deep space and for off-world exploration.”
