As a third-generation entrepreneur, Demetrius Gray was always groomed to run a business. He just didn’t know it would be a tech startup.

Gray is the co-founder and CEO of WeatherCheck, developer of an online platform used to monitor homes for damage caused by hail and other major weather events. He started the company 3 1/2 years ago after working in an operations role at a roofing company that specialized in insurance-related losses.
“I saw that there was a real challenge for policyholders who didn’t understand what was happening when weather events hit them,” Gray told Lifewire in a phone interview. “When I saw that insight, I thought, maybe I can use technology to solve some of these problems.”
Gray said he takes after his grandfather and great-grandfather, who were also entrepreneurs who worked in various industries. His family taught him a lot about starting his own business from the time he was young.
