Nintendo recently released its financial earnings report for the nine-month period ending December 31, 2020. In the report, the company revealed that it had seen record sales for the Nintendo Switch, as well as a 43% increase in software sales during the last nine months of 2020, compared to the same period the year before.
According to experts, there are several factors behind the increase in sales, including the popularity of Nintendo's own series and the easily portable experience the Switch offers for users who want to disconnect from their living rooms after months of being stuck inside.
“Nostalgia has been a key feature of the pandemic, as people turn to comfort foods from their childhoods or analog activities like puzzles to relieve boredom and calm themselves during turbulent times,” Laura Tarbox, a culture and brand strategist at Oglivy, told us over email.
