Google eventually unveiled the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro in August, giving users a first look at the company’s upcoming Android smartphone lineup. While it might be tempting to think the move could dethrone Samsung as the largest Android manufacturer, experts say it’s more likely to lead to greater competition and innovation.
“While tech savvy users may think that the new Google Pixel models will dominate the Android market, the reality is that Samsung’s current leadership position and strong pipeline of upcoming models like the Galaxy S22 ensures that the Android market remains highly competitive,” Mobile Klinik CEO Tim McGuire told Lifewire in an email.
One of the biggest points of contention surrounding the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro is the introduction of Google Tensor, a new system on a chip (SoC) designed by Google specifically for the new Pixel phones. It’s very similar to how Apple creates its own chips for its iPhone and iPads, allowing the company complete control over the performance delivered to a device.
