How to Change a Printer from Offline to Online

If you’ve tried to print a document in Windows 10, you know that it won’t print unless the printer is online. Typically, this involves turning on your printer and waiting a few seconds for the status to change from offline to online.

Unfortunately, this doesn’t always happen. Instead, the printer stays offline, even though your printer is turned on and connected to your computer or network. There are quite a few reasons why Windows doesn’t detect that the printer is online, and I’ll do my best to cover as many solutions as possible.

The first thing you should do before you start digging into settings and tools is to simply turn your printer and computer off and back on. Often that will fix the problem. Turn off your printer and turn off your computer. Then turn on your printer and wait for it to connect to the network. If you are using a USB cable, just wait for the printer to finish booting up.
