The key to success in Soulmask is to get Tribesmen to work with your cause and the first step in the process is to build a Bonfire. It acts as a beacon to attract others to your cause and until you build one you will not be able to attract your first tribesperson.
It is also an important part of your first shelter, because if you have a campfire in your building, it will help to prevent the building from breaking down. Note that your first building should be on a 3×3 foundation (minimum) with the campfire right in the middle. This is because you cannot build a wall on the side of a foundation that has part of the campfire on it.
To craft a Bonfire in Soulmask, you'll need to use the Bonfire skill, which is at the very top of the second part of the skill tree, Dawn of the New Tribe (highlighted below).
