Windows 11 is a big change from previous versions, with a new user interface, AI integration, and different ways to interact with your PC. To get new builds, Microsoft offers three channels through the Windows Insider program: dev, beta, and release preview. Now, the company is introducing another way to get newer builds, called Windows Canary builds. Let’s learn more about these new builds and how you can get them.

Microsoft is testing the latest Windows Canary builds for all Insider members subscribed to the channel. This channel provides the latest builds that Microsoft is testing, featuring the newest and experimental features that may never make it into the final version of future Windows 11 updates.

Like the Dev Channel, Canary will include Windows builds .25000 and above, while all other channels will be limited to .23000. Builds released in the Canary Channel will come with minimal documentation and release notes, as they will be fairly new, according to Microsoft.

For now, the Dev Channel is similar to Canary builds. In fact, builds released in the Dev Channel are .25000 builds, which is why all Dev Channel members are automatically moved to Canary in the Windows Insider Program. Once everyone has migrated, the Dev Channel will begin containing .23000 builds. Switching back to the Dev Channel from Canary will require a complete reinstall of Windows 11.
