Epic Games caused a storm of outrage when they acquired Rocket League. When one company acquires another, leadership is replaced, and customers and employees are concerned about change, the new regime does its best not to rock the boat. Epic Games is not just any company.

Aside from a seismic shift to free-to-play that brought in millions of new players, Epic Games decided to overhaul its already overhauled friends system, ditching the game’s own internal friends list, which was created to facilitate crossplay, and replacing it with the Epic Friends List. It wasn’t exactly a smooth transition.

Apparently, once the game went free-to-play, it was like the gates of a Black Friday sale had opened, with free players rushing in en masse to get their hands on a game that many had heard of but few had had the chance to try. And of course, chaos ensued, confusion was sown, and the servers practically burst into flames. Many of the missing friends lists have since been restored.

But many are still confused about how the new party system in Rocket League works.
