A GIF is an image format that captures a short scene of moving images in a film-like format. However, because it is only an image, there is no sound. Facebook allows users to post GIFs in their status updates, comments, and private messages.

When you click or tap the field to post a new message on Facebook.com, a list of options will open. Scroll through these options until you see GIF and select it. If you don't see it, select the three dots icon to see more options.

A grid of popular suggested GIFs will appear, built right into Facebook for your convenience. Select one you like to have it automatically inserted into the post field, or use the search field to find a GIF based on a specific keyword.
