If you’ve played a Fallout game, you know that modding is a huge part of it. That’s why modders everywhere are curious about the Fallout 4 Script Extender next gen update. This is important because the next gen version of the base game has just been released and it changes things up, but that doesn’t make it immediately compatible with the latest F4SE version. Additionally, both the script extender and the game version need to work together in order for your mods to work properly.

How to Rollback the Fallout 4 Next Gen Update and FIX YOUR MODS!! (READ DESCRIPTION) Steam ONLY

For those new to modding, Fallout 4 Script Extender or F4SE "is a modder's resource that extends the scripting capabilities of Fallout 4. It does this without modifying the executable files on disk, so there are no permanent side effects.".

You need to make sure that you don’t update the game to the latest version. Or downgrade the game to the previous version, so that F4SE, the game and mods are compatible with each other again. Before we go into the steps for this, here is the current update of the F4SE update for next-gen compatibility by the F4SE team:

"The Fallout 4 update from 2024-04-25 (1.10. 980 and later) broke F4SE and the rest of the native code modding scene, much like the Skyrim "Anniversary Edition" patch. I am working on an update and cannot provide a timeline for its availability or if there will be critical technical issues that would prevent an update at this time." The team asks that you do not email them with questions, and you can check out the Nexus Thread for more information.
