Your next virtual reality (VR) headset may connect to your brain.

How Virtual Reality Tricks Your Brain

Varjo is bringing a neural interface to its latest VR headset. The device contains a variety of sensors to measure data from the user's brain, eyes, heart, skin and muscles, and is intended to explore how VR can enhance human thinking.

“Researchers and companies that leverage the combination of neurotechnology and VR are opening up a wealth of new and rich data that can help developers better understand how an individual responds to virtual worlds and experiences in real time,” Tristan Cotter, GM, Americas, Varjo, told Lifewire in an email interview. “The key to this is that VR allows you to immerse users in any virtual environment or scenario.”

Varjo is partnering with OpenBCI to produce the Galea, a hardware and software platform that combines brain-computer interface (BCI) technology with extended reality (XR) headsets. It will open to the public for sale in July, but pricing has not yet been announced.
