What the hair pro suggests is to go for sleek layers, so that the strands don’t come out in clumps, but instead have softer ends. He then asks if the girl always wears glasses to help decide which layers would be most flattering.

The shortest layer starts just below the client’s chin—to look good with or without glasses—and then subtly transitions into the longer layers to create a face-framing look. The trick makes the hair look lighter without actually weighing it down.
