Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi celebrated the International Day of Yoga on Wednesday with a multi-country session of the ancient discipline at the UN headquarters.

“Yoga means uniting. So your coming together is an expression of another form of yoga,” Modi, dressed all in white, said on the first day of a visit to the United States.

It was Modi who, in 2014, through a resolution of the UN General Assembly, brought about the establishment of the International Day of Yoga on June 21.

On yellow mats on a lawn at the U.N. complex on the East River, people from 135 countries stretched and meditated during Wednesday’s group session, setting a record for nationalities in yoga at one time, according to the Guinness organization.
