If your internet connection seems slow, the first step is often to benchmark it with an internet speed test. This can give you a fairly accurate indication of how much bandwidth you currently have at your disposal.
Do internet speed tests REALLY measure your internet speed?
Internet speed tests are great for proving whether or not you are getting the bandwidth you are paying for from your ISP. They can also help determine if your ISP is throttling. Additionally, I like to use a speed test site to set expectations when I am at a hotel or using another public wifi network.
Test your bandwidth with one or more of these free sites, then compare that information to the high-speed plan you signed up for. I've tested all of these sites, and will add more to this list as I find them.
If you plan on arguing with your ISP about your slow internet connection, the best thing to do is to test your internet speed yourself with your ISP.
