While the iOS 18 update was welcomed and praised for its new features, it also eliminated a few features that Apple deemed not to be useful enough. One such feature that your iPhone will no longer support after the iOS 18 update is the ability to track “Time in Bed” in the Health app. Here’s what you’re losing with the discontinuation of the feature, and why it’s a loss for those who don’t like to sleep with their Apple Watches on.

The Health app is the only iPhone app that lets you view a history of various data points about your health. Until recently, your iPhone would track and chart how much time you spent in bed. Sadly, those days are over.

The iOS 18 update now drops support for sleep tracking and time in bed. While there’s an argument to be made as to whether the iPhone can track sleep at all, tracking time in bed, at the very least, is something that can be a bit of a miss for many. Here’s why.

The iPhone's "Time in Bed" feature allowed users to control when they put their iPhone down at night and how long their iPhone was left untouched. Of course, there's only a weak correlation between not touching your iPhone and a good night's sleep. After all, you could toss and turn in bed without touching your iPhone. But since not using your iPhone at night is loosely correlated with "falling asleep," many users found it a good way to know approximately when they fell asleep.
