Things have become murky after Bungie laid off 17 percent of its workforce on August 1, with the Sony-owned studio citing broader economic realities despite the success of Destiny 2's latest expansion, The Final Shape. This was the studio's second major round of layoffs in the past year. More than 100 staff members were let go in the first round, due in late October 2023, as the company fell short of its financial targets. In a Q&A session following the layoffs, employees asked whether the leadership team had considered salary cuts to avoid layoffs. As reported by IGN, the response was that Bungie was "not that kind of company."
