Gemini Live aims to change the digital assistant landscape. By integrating AI into what was until recently just Google Assistant, Google has made conversing with its chatbot a completely hands-free, natural, and human experience.

But do you have to pay for Gemini Live? Apparently, yes. Gemini Live is a paid service and is currently only available to those who have purchased a Gemini Advanced subscription. This is also part of the larger Google One AI plan which, along with Gemini Live, also comes with other perks such as 2TB of storage, Gemini in Gmail, Docs and Magic Editor with unlimited storage – all combined for $19.99 per month.

If you’re not sure whether Gemini Live is worth it or not, you can also start a one-month trial. Those in the market for a Pixel 9, Pixel 9 Pro, or Pixel 9 Pro Fold will get access to Gemini Live for free for a full year, giving you all the more reason to upgrade to the new Pixel.

It’s unclear whether Google will ever remove Gemini Live from its paid Google One plan and make it free for everyone. Even if it does, Google probably won’t do that for several years, especially considering how much buzz Gemini Live’s free-flowing conversational capabilities have created. So if you want to chat freely on Gemini Live, a subscription is a must.
