The International Olympic Committee (IOC) has come under fire from prominent women's rights activists after a boxing match was cancelled over safety concerns.
Italian Angela Carini could not finish her fight in Paris 2024 against Algerian Imane Khelif. Last year she was disqualified from the Women's World Championship due to elevated testosterone levels.
“It could have been the match of my life, but I also had to save my life at that moment,” an emotional Carini told reporters after the preliminary round of the 66kg event.
