It hasn't been too long since Riot Games implemented League of Legends' new mastery system, but summoners are already complaining about the changes and how difficult it has become to complete certain challenges.

RIOT HAS REWORKED THE MASTERY AND EVERYONE HATES IT – League of Legends

For example, the League subreddit has seen multiple front-page discussions about the current difficulty of the mastery system and how the latest changes will force players to play even more games to earn massive amounts of mastery points for specific champions, rather than testing their actual skill.

One player explained that they wanted to reach the highest mastery level on each champion, while reaching levels six and seven required players to achieve S ranks with their performance. However, with the new system, they now have to grind and play a lot of games to earn a huge amount of points to achieve the same goal, which they felt negated what mastery should represent in the first place: mastery of a champion, not countless hours of play.

Another user said they were trying to complete a challenge called Sage, which required players to reach level seven mastery for various champions. With the new update, Riot increased the requirement for this challenge from level seven to level 10, which has now dropped players down the capstone challenge rank and made the quest even more difficult.
