Microsoft Flight Simulator on Xbox Series X is an incredibly faithful port of last year’s award-winning PC game. And that’s my biggest problem with it.

Don't fly Microsoft Flight Simulator on Xbox!

This is not an Xbox version of Flight Simulator. It is an attempt to fit the existing game into a console framework, with numerous shortcuts and adjustments so that you can fly a realistically depicted aircraft directly from the pilot's seat with your Xbox controller.

It’s a lot of hassle when you have the relative freedom of a keyboard and mouse, or one of the elaborate hardware mockups that serious flight sim fans have put together. Try to cram all that into the relatively confined space of a gamepad and you’re asking for trouble.

That said, Microsoft Flight Simulator controls fine once you're in the air, but it's one of the few video games where I had more trouble with the tutorial than anything else.
